The pigs went to the abatoir today. The farmer who kept his cows in our field over the summer came and drove them in his little lorry. He had to fix it with string once they were loaded inside - they also started eating the floor which was a bit worn away - he then nearly crashed in to a police car at a roundabout on the way there where they were setting up a check point (they often do them on Sundays to catch people driving home after a big boozy Sunday lunch) but luckly got away with it.
Despite these things he made the whole thing less stressful as he knew what to do at the abatoir, where to go, and where to back the lorry up to etc.
It was very efficient at the abatoir - not suprising I suppose as they do it all the time. Today is the day for individuals rather than farmers to bring animals in (as far as I could understand) and there were a lot of people delivering a variety of animals. They had an efficient system for getting them out of the lorries and trailers in to separate little pens inside.
It was sad to see them go, but they didn't seem frightened (the last we saw of them), so we will focus on the sausages etc to come.
