We have started taking Poppy for walks with our bicycles. It is good because we can go a bit faster and really tire her out.
We had an unfortunate incident though. Doug was on Owen and I was on my bike with Poppy on the lead. Not far from home Poppy was suddenly set on by two HUGE dogs. We see these dogs quite often and have heard that they frequently bite bits off cars and have on occasions taken a nibble out of motor cycle riders. As it turned out it was very fortunate that we had Owen with us rather than both of us being on bikes - I don't know what would have happened then, but I suspect they would have killed her - or we would have been injured trying to rescue her or something. As it was Doug rode at the dogs shouting and waving his whip and scared them off. Owen behaved heroically too and didn't object to having the whip waved around in his face.
The attack probably lasted about 5 seconds (although it seemed longer!) but they had managed to take a chunk out of her bum and one out of her side as well as various other marks on her. They were really going for it. So another trip to the vet, who decided not to stitch this time. It looks like it will leave a scar as it is very deep and jagged.
Poor Poppy is wearing a pair of boxer shorts to stop her licking it all the time.
We have tried to complain to the owner of the dogs, but he is never in! They seem to be a bit of a nuisance generally. According to neighbors the owner is very nice, but no one knows why he doesn't confine the dogs despite various complaints.
