Yet more hay

We went this weekend to get yet more hay. This was from the same person who delivered 60 bales recently. We fitted 48 in to the horse trailer. The farmer farms evenings and weekends to help out his father and is an engineer by day. He speaks English very well, his father was pleased to see him speaking English to us and said all the money he had spent on his education was worth it.

They are a little bit away from the mountains (30 mins drive from us), the view is dramatic of the mountains. It doesn't show in the photo, but the mountains look much bigger from this distance than from where we are

We should now have enough to see us through the winter. There are about 100 bales in this pile now!

The horses have been getting hay from the giant bales the neighbors delivered. They seem quite happy with the dry weather. It is very cold at night (-6 or -7C) but they have very thick wooly winter coats.

The cows get a big bale every fortnight from a farmer who delivers straight into the field. This lasts them about a week, then we give them small bales until the next big one arrives. They will need more if/when it gets wetter because although it is cold now, they feel it much more when it is wet even when it is not actually as cold
