Riding Miss Daisy

Doug had a good idea this weekend that we could take Daisy out in the box and take it in turns going for a short ride (Owen is getting rid of an abscess). He found the perfect place last week while walking the dog.
He then also had the great idea of taking some fencing poles with us and setting up an arena to school her in a bit.
We weren't sure if we would take Owen, as balancing on 3 legs in the trailer could be tricky - though he would be sad to be left behind and Daisy would prefer it if he was there.
In the end his abscess FINALLY decided to come out of the coronary band (at the top of the hoof). There is a chance if you drill through the hoof you will hit the right spot and let the pressure (pus!) out without it working it's own way, but otherwise if comes out either the sole or the coronary band. Once it does it is a massive relief for the horse. He wasn't in too much discomfort this time otherwise we would have called the farrier to try to find the spot - I am cutting their hooves, but not happy to start digging holes through the middle of them.

You can kind of make out the arena here, Doug is at the far end of it on Daisy and Owen is outside it grazing (lucky boy had a lazy time!)

Cornering in the arena

Looking to see where Daisy has gone. I took him for a walk leading him while Doug went for a ride on Daisy

The arena was a great success, we might try to get some letter markers so we can make it even better and do some things like measuring out the correct lengths of rope so it is easier to put together.
Owen should be able to join in next time.
