In France the pharmacies all do a useful service where they will identify mushrooms for you and tell you whether they are edible. So luckly mushrooms are unlikely to be the cause of our death...
At the top of the land Doug found a number of good looking mushrooms which he identified as
parasol mushrooms using our mushroom book.
To be doubly sure before trying it we took it in to a pharmacy. The young guy there shrugged in a French way and said yeah sure I am pretty sure it is fine... then went off to check in his book. Having consulted with this he shrugged again and said sure it is fine. We somehow didn't feel really confident in this identification, so it was good when his older colleague arrived and as soon as she saw it she said mmmmm those are delicious fried in butter.
We have had them prepared in a number of different ways now. Just fried in butter is nice but we found them even better covered in egg and cornflour (actually semolina) then fried. Fried with onion and cream and a spot of lemon was good too.
