The Jacob sheep, whose name is Mrs Jacob (imaginatively) had a bit of a sniffle when we got her. We thought it was probably just the stress of travel so we waited to see if it would get better. It got a bit worse and she started sneezing quite violent big sneezes.
We had to see the vet about flea prevention for Poppy and the cats so we mentioned it to him when we were there. He thought she had something gross called nasal bot (why do animals get so many gross parasites?) which is where a certain type of fly lays its lavae on the nose of the sheep and they live up there and eat away (eeeeugh). So we had to inject her with a worm/parasite prevention thing. The others probably need doing too, but there was less urgency for them as they do not seem to have the same issue and they all need doing in November anyway as that is when one protects against liver fluke.
We managed to catch her by luring her in to the fence with some barley. She loves it and came running.
I grabbed her through the fence and hung on until Doug grabbed her from the other side. We then managed to flip her over although it was more difficult than with the smaller ones, I think we need a better technique.
Doug held her down while I injected. It took a moment to manage to get the needle on the syringe and to work out I needed to tip the bottle upside down to manage to get anything out of it in to the syringe.
She is still sneezing a bit a few days but does seem better I think. Much of the damage done by the lavae will not go away so she may have slightly noisy breathing for ever now poor thing.
