Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

In our case it was definately the chicken who came first, WAAAAY before the egg...
This morning we found a small egg in the nest box though, and Big Chicken had layed her egg yesterday evening so she is unlikely to have done another one yet. The first few eggs a chicken lays are often smaller also... so fingers crossed one of the others has started. We will see for sure over the next few days.

This research clearly concludes that poking chickens in the bum in the middle of the night induces them to start laying.

Have I shown you the egg skelter before? I can't remember. It looks more impressive at the moment than it usually does as some friends gave us some eggs when they came round to dinner. Showing off that their chickens are laying more than they can eat! Very useful for making sure you eat the eggs in the order they were layed for optimum freshness.
