Cute new lambs!

I was just planning a post speculating whether the sheep are pregnant or not. It turns out that at least one of them was!
Doug went up to put some ashe in the compost and there they were!
We haven't been very close, so we haven't got a very clear photo. She started stamping her foot when we approached, so we left her to it as she seems to have it under control and we have no idea.

They are very cute, kind of staggering around on bandy legs. They are dry and fluffy though so they must have been born a little while ago. We didn't check the sheep before going skiing this morning, but we did look at them last night (as we took one of her last years lambs off to the abattoir - the circle of life).

It is quite warm during the day at the moment, but coldish at night. Hopefully they will be ok, they have some shelter so should be.

We looked at the other sheep and tried to decide whether they are fat or not. We decided they were, then looked at the ram and he looked fatter so then we weren't sure any more whether it was full tummy or a lamb. Probably all the ewes in the main field with Tyson (the ram) are pregnant and will give birth over the next few weeks.

Probably pregnant (lambs and mum in background)
We are less sure though about the younger ewes who are in a field with Col as they are possibly too young still (about a year old)
Although we did see the rams mounting them too in the autumn. Wait and see it the only way to tell.
Fat? Just hairy? Or pregnant?

We have bought some hand shears to do something about Cols stupid looking shaggy coat (and some of the other sheep too). Hopefully we won't chop anything but wool off by mistake!
