Le Pic du Midi

Having visitors is an excuse for time off (although they may be made to work first)

We went up the Pic du Midi which is the highest peak in this part of the Pyrénées. You can see it from the house. There is an observatory on the top which explains the spikes.

The cable car up goes from La Mongie which is a ski station (the nearest to us) in winter, and has a lot of cows, lamas, alpacas, horses etc in the summer (they are walked up there in the traditional way from different villages during the transhumance in the spring. They have big festivals as they do it and we hope to go to one - certainly one year anyway...)
